What does a scholarly article look like?

Answer

Scholarly articles typically include:

  • a list of authors and their affiliations
    • authors are preferably experts in the field
  • an abstract (summary), an introduction, methods, results, a conclusion, and a bibliography
  • charts, graphs, equations

Peer-review is also an element of scholarly articles and refers to a specific editing and approval process of an academic or scholarly publication. If an article has been "peer-reviewed" that means it was reviewed for publication by a panel of other experts in the subject area. This process is done to ensure that the final study is of academic quality.

It’s important to note that not every academic article will have gone through a peer review process. If you want to know if an article is peer reviewed, you can use this FAQ or this video to help.

If you need additional help, you can always email or make an appointment with a librarian.
