How can I find articles if UIS Library doesn't have what I am looking for?

Answer

If you are looking for articles that UIS doesn’t provide access to, there are two other options that you can use to find articles.

"Expand My Results" with UIS Library Search

First, you can try clicking the “Everything” tab under the advanced search on the library website. This widens the search to all items within the I-share and Interlibrary Loan system, and you can potentially request articles from these other libraries.

For example, this article is not available at UIS but can be requested from UIUC through I-share. Other articles might also be available through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) if they are unavailable from I-share.

If the item you are looking for is still not available with an everything search, a further option is to use the Expand My Results button, which will also include resources that are available for physical request from other libraries but not available online.

Google Scholar

Alternatively, Google Scholar can help you discover some articles that the library doesn’t provide access to. Google Scholar can provide access to articles even if they aren’t available to view through the library. If you hit a paywall and are asked to pay for access, consider placing an interlibrary loan request to get access to the material via the UIS Library. This FAQ reviews how to place an interlibrary loan request.
